Installation Guide

It is highly recommended that you read the excellent installation guide, which has been carefully written to make the installation process quick and problem free!

PLEASE NOTE: The start of the "download edition" installation differs slightly different from the instructions given above (start by dragging your activation key onto the installation window rather than typing in your registration details). After this initial step, you can follow the guide verbatim.

Iyonix Installation

Before starting the !Install application, you have to ensure that Aemulor is not interfering. Either completely quit Aemulor (Quit->Emulator_too) or ensure that it doesn't treat FontFS as a 26-bit application.

In order to do this, open the iconbar menu and then the "Config...", "Applications..." and "Modules..." windows. In the "Config..." window, select "Run only if dragged onto Aemulor" and not "Run all 26-bit code automatically". In the "Applications..." window, select any reference to "!FontFS" and click on remove. In the "Modules..." window, select any reference to "FontFS" and click on kill.

Now you can run !Install and the installation process should run without problems.

RISC OS Emulators

Whilst RISC OS emulators are not actively supported, some users have reported that they have successfully installed Font Directory on Virtual RISC PC. Though, currently, it must be installed on a hard disc image.

Aaron Timbrell, Virtual Acorn:

  • Double click on !Boot
  • Go to Discs
  • Set the number of IDE discs to 1
  • Click OK and wait.
  • A new drive icon appears on the iconbar.
  • Install Font Directory to this new drive.

Martin Wuerthner on csa.apps:
"You can create a hard disc image and make it appear as a local hard disc. From this image, FontFS should work."

Upgrading from Font Directory 2

If you are upgrading from Font Directory 2, you should download and read the following release note:
